Once a sleepy railroad town, Jedburg is poised to become a hotbed of activity with recent announcements of several key development projects. Conveniently located along the I-26 corridor, with Summerville less than 5 miles to the south, Goose Creek just a few miles further to the east, and downtown Charleston just 25 miles to the coast. A new AAAA High School is under construction with elementary and middle schools approved for development next year.

A large explosion of growth will take place outside of the I-526 boundary. This area of growth will create a new population center in the Moncks Corner/ Summerville/ Goose Creek /Jedburg area, which in the near future, is projected to have over 100,000 homes.

One of the areas most talked about developments is Carnes Crossroads. In January of 2006, The Daniel Island Company acquired a 2,300-acre tract of land in Goose Creek that includes the Carnes Crossroads intersection and began developing a master plan for a mixed-use community for this growing area of Berkeley County. This new development will essentially become a ‘sister community’ to Daniel Island – a ‘smart growth’ community that responsibly combines residential and commercial uses and evolves as a gathering place for the area. The company will begin pre-development activities this year and anticipates active development to begin in 2007.

A former timber tract, the property is located at the intersection of highways 17A and 176 – an important center for growth in Berkeley County – and includes four miles of prime commercial frontage. It has the potential to develop into a significant commercial and residential center for the city.

The development will have an unparallel use of greenways along with a system of lakes to enhance the natural beauty of the area. There will be an emphasis on streetscape with a mixture of both larger and smaller homes. Daniel Island Company is working with the city of Goose Creek with the goal of creating a new downtown which will have a similar look and feel of Daniel Island.
