Johns Island
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 01:01PM Johns Island, the East Coast’s second largest sea-island, is an ideal place for a relaxed lifestyle. Located just west of James Island, Johns Island is bordered by the Stone River, which is a part of the Intracoastal Waterway. Johns Island serves as a gateway to Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island, popular resort islands. For decades, this rural island has served as the heart of the Lowcountry farm country, providing the fresh fruits and vegetables that are regularly featured in Lowcountry cuisine. In recent years, Johns Island has seen an up turn in residential development, as homeowners are drawn to the island by its natural environment and its convenience to downtown Charleston.
