King Street is a shopper's fantasy come to life. Imagine it, a shopping street nearly 20 blocks long, adorned with palmetto trees, charming architecture, inns, cafes, and extraordinary shops.

Upper King Street is an area in transition. It is quickly becoming the design center of Charleston with wonderful new shops such as Waterworks, Dwell, Luan and Circa Lighting. The Charleston Visitor Center (375 Meeting St.) is a great place to rest and take the trolley back to your hotel - or, perhaps, on to more shopping.

MOUNT PLEASANT - shopping

Mount Pleasant offers a wide variety of experiences for the eager shopper. One of my favorite things to do every Tuesday is to go to the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, located at the Moultrie School on Coleman Blvd. It offers fresh, locally grown produce, flowers, herbs and baked goods. Starting in the late spring and running until the early fall it is definitely worth a visit, even if you are in town for a short visit. The peaches are just out of this world.

The area's newest and most popular shopping focal point is Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, located on Highway 17 North. It was designed to be reminiscent of an "uptown" shopping district without the hassle of parking meters and parallel parking. It is also home to the areas best Movie Theatre – The Palmetto Grande.
